Bandsawn Nesting Boxes
This is actually two videos in one! In the first part, Nick shows how to set up your band saw for precise resawing, keeping the re-sawn wooden slabs at a consistent thickness and the block from which you are cutting them square and true. The second part shows how to use this set-up to cut the parts to make "nesting" boxes -- a collection of matching boxes that fit or "nest" inside one another. These can all be cut from a single block of wood, or a block that you assemble from several wood species to create a decorative pattern like the wooden "ribbons" shown here. Watch the first part for some great tips on resawing, and the second for a simple project you can make from scraps or firewood.
The plan for the the nesting boxes -- including detailed instructions on setting up for resawing -- is available from our Workshop Companion General Store at workshopcompanionstore.com/products/nesting-boxes

Pegged Mortises & Tenons -- Square Pegs in Round Holes
Переглядів 65 тис.8 місяців тому
If you’re still laboring under the childhood delusion that you can’t put square pegs in round holes, this may convince you otherwise. For millennia, craftsmen have secured joints with wooden pegs called trenails or trunnels. In the last century, makers of Craftsman or Mission-style furniture have used them as both fasteners and decoration. They pegged mortise-and-tenon joints together by drivin...
Bending Wood With Heat
Переглядів 474 тис.10 місяців тому
You can easily make tight, permanent bends in thin pieces of wood simply by heating one side! Nick walks you through the technique as he demonstrates an ingenious fixture that serves as both a heat source and a bending form. This shopmade jig holds propane torch as it heats a short section of plumbing pipe. This, in turn, heats the board as you bend it. The plans for this heat bending jig (and ...

Nesting Christmas Trees A Holiday Project
Not even a woodworker in any capacity. I just love watching
Cool 😎
Wow thanks!
This is my favorite gnome
I go no more than 220
Excellently helpful! This is obviously the easiest, most reliable, most rational way to cut plywood. Thanks!
Most welcome.
you can also do a shallow cut first, then flip the board and do the full cut. Probably faster than a masking tape.
Uhmmm...no? Part of the strength of a pocket screw joint is the mechanical fastners pulling the two pieces together...
The multi linked belts are noisy.
Lignin muh balls
Shocked that those goofy interlinked belts make less vibration
I wish Nick had been my shop teacher in middle school.
I’ve never woodworked in my life and still watch all your stuff haha. I love it
Thanks.
Okay but how do I balance the penny?
Carefully.
This dude is dope
I just let it rip (pun intended) and take some sand paper or a file to it
Couldn't you just use blue masking tape over the cut line
Oh, I have a trick to share for once… I’ve had pretty good luck with plywood by essentially ‘scoring’ the line by making a verrrrry shallow non-through cut with the tablesaw before making the actual cut
Not that we want to discourage you from sharing, but see the pinned comment.
I replaced my tablesaw v-belt with a link belt, it runs so much smoother and quieter, it was like getting a brand new saw.
That's been my experience.
Thanks!
Feel like im looking at my shampoo and conditioner again haha i have to get specific brands without the silicone so it doesnt build up in my hair
When you start looking for it, it's everywhere.
I love this content
Thanks mate! This is what UA-cam is all about.
You know, I never thought about the fact that woodwork probably uses higher quality blades. Then dioblo genrel use blades.
What if you prepare it with acetone after sanding with 600 grit?
Acetone will remove any grease, wax, or oils on the surface. It does not free up impacted dust.
Absolutely correct 💯🎯
The level of detail and expertise while remaining absolutely practical and easy enough for beginners to follow on this channel are 10/10. This guy is a legend.
Old but good 🎉
Cool, thank you!
Most welcome.
I like this old school craftsman, thanks buddy
As a layman with no years of experience, i remember seeing someone put a second board on top to achieve this same much cleaner cut. Correct me if you disagree!
It works as long as you can safely secure the sacrificial board and you have the lumber to sacrifice.
Balance a nickel.... Damn ... My table saw (the only I take back and forth to the my cabin... Vibrates so hard it walks off the sawhorse table. Lol
I love this dude, if he was my woodworking teacher I’d probably have stuck with it. So informative and entertaining
I have always been a fan and have always loved your work
Very true about stamped pulleys, The Idler pulley on my zero turn lawn mower is way out of round, it was made that way😮
Thank you thank you thank you
Most welcome welcome welcome.
Geez how have I lived without this channel. It would have saved me so much angst if only I found it sooner
I never knew this! I've been using furniture polish for decades because my parents used it. 😮
It’s honestly impressive how well you lay out the information
Thanks. We try.
A great video very well explained and with some fantastic results. Thanks for the educational share.
Tape
I watch woodworking videos for fun. Don't have the talent to make a simple box LOL. But when one of your videos come along, I know that will be an one minute masterclass. Lessons for life. THANKS !
Or put a 2x4 over where the blade cuts into it
Of all the UA-cam shorts creator, you and the milkshake man are the two I never skip
💖
That is so useful! Thank you very much for these advices, tape after applying pressure turned out brilliantly well, customer is beyond satisfied, so thank you again! Love from Russia!
I bought mine in 1987 and have all the bells and whistles....have made just about everything with this tool....the company is a short drive here in Dayton, Ohio
Cant you lower the blade to only cut part of the wood and then flip the board and cut again?
im none of these things and any time i see this guy's videos on shorts i give them a like, hes WELL of information and i hope it reaches the people that need it.
Can I turn the piece over and cut with the good side down?
